2/ Rice characteristics:
– Appearance: has medium thin shape with translucent white color.
– Ham Chau rice is created from short-term rice varieties, which can be grown in many different soil types. Rice has white seeds, large and long. When cooking, the rice expands and becomes more spongy.
– After cooked: the rice is hard and dry, suitable to use as ingredient to make noodles.
3/ Number of crops per year: 3 (Feb to April – Winter Spring, June to August – Summer Autumn and November to December – Autumn Winter).
Ham Chau rice is a short-term rice, they have a growing time of about 90 days.
Ham Chau rice can grow up to 3 crops/ year. The average yield is about 6 tons/ ha. Specifically, with the Winter-Spring crop of Ham Chau, the yield is about 6-8 tons / ha. As for the summer-autumn crop, the yield is slightly lower, around 5-6 tons / ha.
4/ Growing areas: Bac Lieu, Vinh Long and some other provinces in the Mekong Delta.
Cooking method: Add rice and water in a 1: 1 ratio.
Storage: Store in cool, dry place, away from sunlight.
